How to Play
Clag Card Game
Welcome to the Tampa, FL version of Clag. My son picked this game up in his travels to Europe and we've adopted and adjusted it a bit, so it is different from standard Clag. This site is meant to simplify scoring during a game between actual people. This is not a simulation. The site works well on desktop or mobile. Enjoy!
Object
The object of the game is to get the highest score.

Number of players
The game uses a single deck of cards, excluding jokers, and can be played with 3 to 7 players.

Trump
The trump suit changes each hand and some hands have no trump. See "Play Details" for a full explanation.

Scoring
Players get 2 points for each trick taken plus ten points for accurately guessing the number of tricks taken.

For instance, if a player bids 2 tricks and takes two tricks, the player gets 2 points for each trick (4 points) and 10 points for taking the number of tricks bid for a total of 14 points for the hand.

Even a player bidding zero tricks can get 10 points if she takes no tricks, but that's not always easy to do!

Don't worry, this site will manage all scoring for you.

Clagging
A player who does not take the number of tricks bid is said to have 'clagged'. Players who clag still receive 2 points per trick taken but do not receive the 10 point bonus.
Play details
The number of suit and trump suit varies by hand and the number of hands changes depending on the number of players.

The first six hands will always be the same
  • 7 cards with trump suit hearts
  • 6 cards with trump suit clubs
  • 5 cards with trump suit diamonds
  • 4 cards with trump suit spades
  • 3 cards with no trump suit
  • 2 cards with trump suit hearts

  • The next hands depend on the number of players and will all be 1 card. Three players means Three 1 card hands. Four players mean four 1 card hands. And so on. This is because the 1 card hands naturally benefits the first player, so having a 1 card hand per player makes the game more fair. The trump suit will continue alternating in the heart, club, diamond, spade pattern.

For three players, the next three hands are
  • 1 card with trump suit clubs
  • 1 card with trump suit diamonds
  • 1 cards with trump suit spades

  • For five players, the next five hands are
  • 1 card with trump suit clubs
  • 1 card with trump suit diamonds
  • 1 card with trump suit spades
  • 1 card with trump suit hearts
  • 1 card with trump suit clubs

  • The last 6 hands will go back up: 2,3,4,5,6 and finally ending with 7 cards again. But the trump suits will be different depending on the number of players.

Don't worry, this site will manage the complications for you. Based on how many players you choose, it will show you all the hands with the number of cards and associated trump suit.

    Bidding
Each hand you will be asked to bid the number of tricks you believe you can take based on the cards in your hand and what the trump suit is. So that not everyone can get the 10 point bonus, the total number of tricks bid cannot equal the number of cards dealt. This means that the dealer may have to bid more or less than she expected. See "Scoring" and "Clagging" for details on the points received for tricks taken.
